Fakarava
Fakarava is the second largest atoll in the Tuamotus and is located to the west of the Tuamotus. Its shape is roughly rectangular with a length of 60 km and a width of 2 km. Fakarava has a large and deep lagoon with a surface area of 1,112 km?. It is composed of two passes: the main pass, located in the northwest, better known as Passe Garuae. It is 1.6 km wide, which makes it the largest pass in French Polynesia. The second one is located in the south and is also called Tumakohua or Tetamanu. Fakarava has been recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2009, and is in the top 5 of the world's diving destinations. With its transparent water and visibility of more than 30 meters, its diverse and abundant fauna, its magnificent corals and its walls of sharks, you are sure to experience one of the most beautiful dives of your life! Indeed, this part is only accessible by boat and it will take you about 1h30 to reach it. We strongly advise you to start your stay in North Fakarava and to finish it in South Fakarava if you want to dive in both passes.
