Rangiroa
Rangiroa is the largest atoll in the Tuamotus, but also one of the largest in the world. It is located 350 km northeast of Tahiti and consists of approximately 415 motus, islets and sandbanks. Thanks to its exceptional lagoon and its magnificent passes, Rangiroa is in the top 5 of the world s destinations for scuba diving. The atoll is very famous for its bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) that regularly play in the pass. Although they can be seen from the mainland, Rangiroa is one of the few places on earth where you can get close to them by diving. The island is also very famous for the observation of the great hammerhead shark, which takes place from december to march. It is during this period that divers from all over the world come to Rangiroa to try to catch a glimpse of this fascinating shark, original by the shape of its cephalofoil and by its imposing size. This idyllic setting attracts many tourists who stay in hotels or guest houses. Daily air connections with Tahiti make it easy to get around.
